Sun columnist Allan Fotheringham writes that a US political specialist known for negative attack strategies to help campaigns in trouble was behind the Tom Long campaign’s attempt to slam Stockwell Day by manipulating comments on LifeSite.

American Life League reported yesterday that it has confirmed allegations that the dissident group,  Catholics for a Free Choice (CFC), “is endorsing a plan to circumvent national laws by performing abortions in international waters.” A staff member called CFC, asking them: “Are you collaborating with Women on Waves regarding the ship called Sea Change, on which abortions would be performed in international waters?” “Yes,” was the “unequivocal response,” reports ALL.

UNICEF (the United Nations Children’s Fund), in a report released yesterday on global conditions among children, said that there are 60 million fewer women in the world today as a result of sex-selective abortions. Despite this indictment of primarily China, and countries in South Asia,  North Africa and the Mideast, the UN department is known to be abortion-friendly. UNICEF’s executive director, Carol Bellamy, is so pro-abortion, says U.S. Congressman Chris Smith, that she voted against a standard of care bill when a Senator in New York’s state senate. That bill would have required doctors to give children who survived botched abortions the same kind of care ordinarily given to other newborns. Read an ABC news report here.

The well-respected Pennsylvania Democrat Governor Bob Casey died this week. Despite being a Democrat, he was “one of the best-known members of the pro-family movement in the 1990s, said Focus on the Family yesterday. Condemning Roe. v. Wade, he said at one time that “it’s like a bone stuck in America’s throat. It simply won’t go down.” He will be missed.

Canada’s ambassador to the United States, Raymond Chretien, is rooting for Al Gore over George W.  Bush as the next president of America. According to the Ottawa Citizen today, Mr. Chretien yesterday told federal government executives that “we know vice-president Gore. He knows us. He’s a friend of Canada.”

American liberals are expressing concern about the possibility of a right-ward shift in the Supreme Court, reported Focus on the Family (FOTF) on Tuesday. People for the American Way (PAW)  is claiming that such a trend will “turn back the clock on social-justice gains.” Lead attorney for PAW, Elliot Mincberg, fears that the court is only one or two votes away from overturning Roe v. Wade, and claimed that “the rights and freedoms of every American are at risk” from a conservative, or “Scalia-Thomas”, court. FOTF cited pro-family attorney Jordan Lorence, condemning the “inflammatory conclusions” in the PAW report, adding that its timing is aimed at influencing the November presidential election.
