A 1998 charge against Toronto nurse Gita Proudman who was accused of suffocating a severely disabled newborn was dropped last month. Media reports indicate that the charges were a gross misapplication of justice. Rather than trying to harm the child, the nurse appears to have been offering comfort to the dying infant. One ad at a subway station pictured a nude pregnant woman covering herself occupying the whole frame, and this caption, “You were never expecting a gay or lesbian child.” A telephone number was provided.
