* ORGAN DONATION REGISTRY BILL C-227 Last Tuesday the House of Commons debated a private member’s bill (C-227) calling for the establishment of a National Organ Donation Registry. It was previously ruled non-votable so it couldn’t be passed into law, but it gave MPs the opportunity to air their concerns about the issue of organ donations.
The bill, introduced by BC Liberal Lou Sekora (Port Moody-Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam), was supported by all parties in the House. Mr. Sekora and the Reform Party’s Keith Martin acknowledged the concerns of those who fear the harvesting of organs from living people for just the time that was necessary to dismiss the concerns as unfounded.

* LUCIE PEPIN PRAISES 1969 ABORTION BILL Last Tuesday in the Senate, pro-abort Senator and former nurse, Ms. Lucie Pépin took some time to celebrate the introduction 30 years ago of Bill C-150, the omnibus bill that opened the door to legalized abortion on May 14, 1969.
In her statement Ms. Pepin expressed the extremist feminist view that the right to kill one’s baby is essential to true liberty for women: “Bill C-150 … began the process of removing the state from bedrooms of the nation. *SENATORS CONDEMN REFORM PARTY UN STATEMENTS Last Wednesday the Senate took some time to condemn the Reform Party for demanding accountability by the United Nations. Senator Douglas Roche said that the only appropriate response to the view that “as the government, [Reform] would review Canada’s membership in the United Nations” was to “ignore” it.
Senator J. Bernard Boudreau, on behalf of the Liberal government, sounded shocked that rational individuals in the 20th century could be so critical of the UN. “I find it incredible that any responsible political party would make a statement or take a position such as has been advanced by the Reform Party,” he said. “That statement should not be given any great attention in order to avoid giving it any credibility.” Reform must really be on to something.
