June 10, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) — Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee launched his second bid for the Republican presidential nomination on May 5. An unabashedly pro-life and pro-family candidate, Huckabee tells LifeSiteNews in this exclusive interview that he is making the right to life “central” to his campaign, and says it is “absolutely” a winning issue.

LifeSiteNews: According to a recent report by the AP, abortions have dropped by 12 percent nationwide. Who do you credit for this?

Gov. Huckabee: The pro-life movement is changing hearts and changing minds! Your hard work, prayers, and petitions are making a difference. I also think social media ultrasound pictures are changing our culture and making it harder for our opponents to undermine and criticize the obvious: life begins at conception.

You’ve gotten a lot of attention for your “Pledge to the People,” particularly your pledge to defund Planned Parenthood. What’s that about?

I want to cut through the clutter so Americans know exactly what I will do as President. There is absolutely no reason why hard-working Americans should have money taken out of their paycheck and given to Planned Parenthood. If you go to MikeHuckabee.com or HuckabeePledge.com you can see my full pledge to the American people.

Do you think judicial supremacy is a serious problem?

Absolutely. It’s the Supreme Court, NOT the Supreme Branch and it’s certainly NOT the Supreme Being. Many politicians have surrendered to the false god of judicial supremacy. We learned this sad reality in Roe v. Wade. We should not give black-robed and unelected judges the power to make law and enforce it. This is wrong. Upending the equality of our three branches of government leads to tyranny, and it also upends our Constitution.

There are many Republicans running for President. What makes your candidacy different?

Everywhere I go, I talk to Americans that have been locked-out of a dysfunctional Washington that carries water for special interests that don’t represent America. I’m a strong pro-life conservative, but I’m not angry about it. This messaging is resonating from coast-to-coast. I’m a Republican who can explain the problems on Main Street but also fight for commonsense pro-life and pro-family values.

In your “Pledge to the People” you promise to defend the “sanctity of all human life from the moment of conception until the grave.” Do you think this is a winning issue politically?

Life is more than just a political issue, it’s a moral issue. I will never apologize for being pro-life. Politically, thousands of people have signed on to HuckabeePledge.com because they refuse to surrender on fundamental issues, like life. What many in the main stream refuse to acknowledge or report is that the issue of life is extremely important within minority communities – and that a majority of college-age Americans now believe life begins at conception. So is it a winning issue politically? Absolutely. Life is central to my campaign, but more importantly–to who I am.

Morally, what will you do as President to turn the tide on President Obama's agenda?

America has witnessed the slaughter of over 55 million babies in the name of “choice.” Politicians and unelected judges threaten the foundation of religious liberty by criminalizing Christianity. This is wrong. As President, I will fight for common sense, but I can’t win this alone. I encourage you to go to MikeHuckabee.com and join with me in this fight for life.  Sign-up today!
