News

Dear Readers,

This past weekend we chatted with a student who is studying for his masters degree at Notre Dame – the same university plunged in controversy over its invitation to President Obama to deliver this year’s commencement speech and receive an honorary law degree.

The student asked about LifeSiteNews (LSN) and the Obama/Notre Dame fiasco, “How is it that you guys always seemed to have the lead on that story?”

Probably the student was referring to the fact that LSN was the only news source that obtained and then leaked key documents – including the one that convinced former U.S. Vatican ambassador Mary Ann Glendon to refuse Notre Dame’s prestigious Laetare award in protest against the Obama invitation.

He may also have been referring to the fact that bishops from all across the country started contacting LSN, just so they could be added to our detailed list of bishops who publicly opposed Obama’s appearance – because members of their diocese had called and written them wondering why they weren’t on our list yet.

Or maybe he was referring to the fact that numerous large mainstream media news sources referred to LifeSiteNews’ coverage in their own reporting on the issue.

Either way, we told the student the truth – that we weren’t really sure how LSN became the go-to source for info about the Notre Dame scandal, except for the fact that LSN continued to do what it always does.

Quite simply, our editor and our reporters recognized that the Notre Dame scandal was one of the biggest stories of the year, and that unless alternative media reported on it, it would not be fully and accurately reported in the mainstream media.

And so that’s what we did.

Patrick Reilly is the president of the Cardinal Newman Society, the same organization that launched a petition protesting Obama’s appearance at Notre Dame that was signed by over 350,000 individuals.

Patrick just told us: “LifeSiteNews’ investigations into pro-abortion scandals are invaluable – from its relentless coverage of the University of Notre Dame’s commencement honors for President Obama, to its report on Georgetown University’s pro-abortion internships.  LifeSiteNews provides a compass for pro-lifers to navigate the stormy sea of our culture.  I hope that this essential service grows by leaps and bounds in the years to come.”

Patrick knows that LifeSiteNews.com gets results

When LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) first started reporting that the Canadian bishops' official development arm, Development & Peace, is funding pro-abortion groups around the world, even some of our most devoted readers expressed concern.

A few supporters wrote to us wondering if we might have gotten in over our heads – especially after D&P flat-out denied the accusations and accused LSN of engaging in “dangerously slanderous and irresponsible” journalism.

By now it should be clear that our reports have been the furthest thing from “slanderous” or “irresponsible.”

Last week, the Peruvian bishops got so fed up with the situation that they wrote to the Canadian bishops strongly urging that they stop funding pro-abortion groups in their country.

And the situation in Peru is only the tip of the iceberg. LSN has provided evidence on over twenty other pro-abortion groups funded by D&P around the world, and we have reason to believe we would discover many more if we had the resources and time for further investigations.

Were it not for the existence of LifeSiteNews, it is doubtful that any of this would have been exposed. Development and Peace would have blithely continued to disburse $20 million of annual funding to groups without much, if any, care about whether the groups also advocated abortion access and other policies opposed to Catholic moral teachings.

LifeSiteNews.com gets results that often no one else can or will. If you think about it, we’re probably the only news source that would have considered investing so much time and energy into such a difficult, but vitally needed series of investigative reports.

But these results are only made possible by YOUR support.

Right now, we are just over one week into our summer fundraising campaign. And we need your help more than ever. Make a one-time, a monthly recurring donation, or even better, join our membership program.

Because of your support, LifeSiteNews.com this year provided the most comprehensive coverage of both the Washington and Canadian Marches for Life with many photos and some videos.

And then, just recently, Brad Mattes, executive director and co-founder of Life Issues Institute, wrote to LSN with the highest compliments for our coverage of the recent Second International Symposium on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide.  There was barely any coverage of that crucial event by any other media, but - we were there.

“The coverage on the euthanasia conference has been excellent.  I’ve been emailing these articles to people who weren’t at the conference,” Mattes said.

Mattes, who also hosts the popular show “Facing Life Head-On,” which is viewed in millions of homes in the US and Canada, shares LSN reports with pro-life leaders around the nation:

“The article on the men who burned the abortion mill because one of them was about to lose his unborn child, was profound.  I emailed this to our Men and Abortion Network.  It reinforced our research on this issue.  It went to about 13 national experts on men and abortion.”

So please, take the opportunity now to help fund the fearless and informative reporting of LSN – reporting that literally saves lives and changes the culture.

Our many victories prove it, the many pro-life and family leaders attest to it, and it is now up to you to not only ensure that LSN can continue, but that it can continue to grow to the next level.

One of the best ways to do this is by becoming a monthly recurring member.  The payments occur automatically each month, are more manageable for you, and provide us with a steady source of income throughout the year.

You can do this by becoming an monthly recurring member or make a standard one-time or monthly recurring donation.

For life and family,
