(LifeSiteNews) – LifeSiteNews has launched a petition to the Vatican and the U.S. Catholic bishops, asking them to “loudly and actively demand and lobby Big Pharma for the ethical development, production and testing of COVID vaccines, untainted by abortion.”

The injections currently used in the global vaccination push have connections to abortion, as reported by LifeSiteNews and by Children of God for Life.

  • The widely-used Pfizer and Moderna shots, relying on the novel mRNA technology, used the aborted fetal cell line HEK-293 in an “integral” manner in the testing of the injections, determining whether the vaccines worked as desired. HEK-293 was developed from the kidney of an aborted baby girl in 1973.
  • AstraZeneca’s injection was also developed from HEK-293, and also uses the fetal cell line in design, development, testing, and production, meaning that the cell line is linked to the ongoing manufacturing of the injection. AstraZeneca also used the cell line MRC-5, taken from a 14-week-old baby killed in 1966, to test their vaccine’s effectiveness.
  • The Johnson & Johnson injection is also linked to abortion, using the aborted fetal cell line in its design, research, and development. The PER.C6 fetal cell line was taken from retinal tissue removed from an 18-week-old baby boy, aborted in the Netherlands in 1985 and later converted into a fetal cell line in 1995 made specifically for “pharmaceutical manufacturing of adenovirus vectors.”

In light of this, numerous cardinals, archbishops, and bishops have repeatedly stated that Catholics should reject using such vaccines due to their connection to abortion.

Cardinal Raymond Burke, former Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, has previously spoken out against vaccines using aborted babies: “It must be clear that it is never morally justified to develop a vaccine through the use of the cell lines of aborted fetuses. The thought of the introduction of such a vaccine into one’s body is rightly abhorrent.”

Bishop Athanasius Schneider, along with co-signers Cardinal Janis Pujats, Bishop Joseph Strickland, and Archbishops Tomash Peta and Jan Pawel Lenga, had expressed the strong conviction that any use of a vaccine tainted with the “unspeakable crime” of abortion “cannot be acceptable for Catholics” under any circumstances.

The prelates pointed to the contradiction between Catholic doctrine, which teaches that abortion is “a grave moral evil that cries out to heaven for vengeance,” and the commonly found view that abortion-connected vaccines are permitted in “exceptional cases of ‘urgent need.’”

In its controversial December 2020 document, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) promoted the use of abortion-tainted vaccines, with certain conditions, and quietly directed the Catholic faithful to protest against the use of aborted babies in the production or testing of available COVID vaccines in the West. The latter part of this instruction has gone widely unnoticed.

  • On the one hand, the CDF says that acceptance of an abortion-tainted vaccine constitutes passive/remote material cooperation in the evil of abortion.
  • On the other hand, the CDF also says that the acceptance of abortion-tainted vaccine is morally permissible when no ethically developed and tested vaccine is available.
  • At the same, however, the CDF paradoxically says that those who accept an unethical vaccine have the moral obligation to protest against it.

While the CDF’s document stipulated that vaccination should always be “voluntary,” the Pope, along with many cardinals and bishops, have since described taking the COVID vaccination as a “moral duty,” or a “gift from God.”

Rather than promoting abortion-tainted injections, the Church should be a leader in the pursuit of moral medicine – demanding the development of ethical vaccines (and, other ethically-developed products) for Catholics who wish to take an injection.

While there are already Catholic scientists, like Dr. Alan Moy, who are working with adult stem cells to help achieve ethical alternatives, they have received “very little interest” from the Church to date.

The John Paul II Medical Research Institute (JP2MRI) is also seeking to develop an ethical COVID-19 vaccine, for which LifeSiteNews is raising funds on its fundraising platform.

Although some individual bishops, like Archbishop J. Michael Miller of Vancouver, Canada, have vocally supported non-abortion tainted vaccines, with Archbishop Miller going so far as to donate toward ethical research, there has been a widespread silence from the hierarchy on the need for ethically produced medicines.

We are asking the Church to stop this apparent servility toward Big Pharma and start a loud and active campaign promoting the development and production of ethical vaccines.

Please SIGN and SHARE this urgent petition urging Pope Francis and other Vatican authorities, as well as USCCB authorities, to loudly demand that Big Pharma develop and produce ethical vaccines for Catholics, untainted by abortion.
