TORONTO, September 2, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) – Linda Gibbons, 67-year-old grandmother and pro-life prisoner of conscience, was arrested outside the Morgentaler abortion facility at 727 Hillsdale Avenue East in Toronto at about 11:00 a.m. today.

Carrying her trademark sign of a picture of a crying child with the words, “Why Mom, when I have so much love to give,” and holding a handful of pro-life pamphlets and the replica of a ten-week-old child in utero, Gibbons walked silently back and forth on the sidewalk while two security guards looked on.

Around 10:45 a.m., three cars from Toronto Police Service 53 Division arrived, as well as a representative of the sheriff’s office, who read Gibbons the injunction that prevents certain activities within 500 feet of the abortion facility’s entrance.

This is a 1999 permanent civil injunction against four named defendants as well as “John and Jane Doe” that prohibits certain activities within 500 feet of the Morgentaler abortion facility. (The 1999 injunction superceded a 1989 interlocutory order brought by Morgentaler against five named defendants.)

After the officer read the order three times to Gibbons, who continued to walk back and forth and refused to speak or to leave, the police arrested her.

While one officer cuffed her hands behind her back, Gibbons finally spoke up, asking the law enforcement officers why they were arresting her for walking peacefully outside the building, but not arresting those who were killing pre-born children inside the Morgentaler facility.

Gibbons told LifeSiteNews in an earlier interview that when she embarked on her pro-life journey in 2000, she thought she would be in jail for five years. When she told this to her daughter, who had pre-schoolers at the time, “I remember she went up in the bedroom and cried.”

Since then, the diminutive pro-life prisoner of conscience has spent 10 years and seven months in jail because of her peaceful witness outside Toronto’s abortion facilities on behalf of the women and unborn children immediately threatened by the violence of abortion.

Several supporters of Gibbons held a “Show the Truth” display outside the Toronto Police Service 53 Division station.

It is expected that Gibbons will appear at College Park court tomorrow. The last two times she was arrested at 727 Hillsdale Avenue East, the Crown dropped the charges, based on Gibbons’ acquittal on appeal last July of the charge of breaking a court order.
