Bobby JindalBATON ROUGE, October 23, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The voters of Louisiana, known to be one of the most pro-life states in the entire nation, have affirmed that status by electing a staunchly pro-life, Catholic family man to be their next governor.  On October 20, Republican Bobby Jindal, surviving especially vicious attacks against his candidacy, became only the second South Asian descent American ever elected as governor of an American state. He will assume office in January.

At the young age of 36, Jindal has an extensive public service record having served in multiple leadership positions and most currently as a member of the House of Representatives since 2004.  In his position as a member of the House, Jindal has maintained a staunchly pro-life record and earned a perfect score from the National Right to Life for his pro-life votes in the most recent House session.

In an unsuccessful 2003 run for governor of Louisiana, Jindal was specifically targeted for his ardent pro-life positions.  At that time, he unapologetically stated to a local newspaper that he was “100 percent pro-life with no exceptions.  I believe all life is precious.”

Jindal will replace the current Louisiana governor, Kathleen Blanco.  Blanco claims to be a pro-life Catholic but has publicly asserted that abortion law exceptions in the cases of rape and incest are “reasonable.”

According to Benjamin Clapper, the Executive Director of the Louisiana Right to Life Federation, “Louisiana Right to Life is looking forward to working with Governor-elect Jindal to further the pro-life tradition of Louisiana.”

As previously reported by LifeSiteNews.com, in June of this year, Louisiana lawmakers voted unanimously in the House of Representatives and the State Senate to ban partial-birth abortion.  The House and Senate also approved a pro-life bill that would have made abortion illegal in every instance except where the life of the mother was in danger.  The bill could only come into effect if Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court.
