TORONTO, April 3, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Ontario Pro-life supporters are being encouraged to make their views known to the justice system on the “sentence” given the woman convicted of a pepper spray attack on Toronto crisis pregnancy counsellor Robert Hinchey last week. Carol Ann Trueman was given an absolute discharge in a Toronto courtroom last Friday, four days after pleading guilty to a charge of assault. Trueman admittedly pepper-sprayed Hinchey at a St. Michael’s Hospital clinic last August, leaving the Aid to Women counselor blinded and in pain for a period of about 15 minutes. Hinchey suffered a scratched eyeball and had to take antibiotics for several days to ward off infection. At the sentencing hearing, Judge Cathy Mocha commended the fact that Trueman was genuinely “remorseful” and ruled that the assailant had acted more out of fear than aggression.
