A 29-year-old man who chased his pregnant wife with a knife, promising to cut her unborn child out of her body, will not go to jail for his crime.

Francisco Jasso accused his 26-year-old wife of having an affair. As she stormed out, he grabbed a knife, saying, “I’m going to make sure you have an abortion before you leave.”

After she fled the house, he dragged her back inside, physically brutalized her, “held her against her will, and even threatened her life and her unborn child’s life,” according to a press release issued by the Santa Fe Police Department.

Officers arrested Jasso on January 11 and ultimately charged him with six felony charges including intent to commit murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. But due to a plea bargain, he entered a guilty plea to misdemeanor battery and assault against a household member and received probation. He will serve no jail time.
