(LifeSiteNews) — Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene accused House Republicans of funding an “invasion” of Spain after quoting fellow Republican Thomas Massie on a recent appropriations bill.

“Republicans paid $40 MILLION of your tax dollars to Morocco to invade Spain,” Greene posted on X. “And then they all pretended like borders matter and clutched their pearls like invasions are offensive. R’s and D’s (Republicans and Democrats) are the same and the Uniparty has put us in $40 T in debt and Americans LAST.”

She was retweeting Massie’s earlier post where he observed that, “2 weeks before migrants from Morocco invaded Ceuta, the GOP passed a bill with $40 million for Morocco and a committee report advising: Spanish-administered cities of Ceuta and Melilla are located in Moroccan territory and remain the subject of Morocco’s longstanding claim.”

In a separate post, Massie added, “Don’t fall for the fake Fox/GOP outrage. Two weeks ago, the House passed a bill that greenlighted the transfer of Spanish territory to Morocco. Every Republican except me voted for it, but now THEY are acting shocked at the invasion.” The bill in question is H.R. 8595, which passed the House on July 15.

The comments followed a mass migrant surge into Spain’s small North African enclave of Ceuta, which reports a population of approximately 84,000 residents. According to Reuters, around 50,000 people crossed from Morocco by land and sea starting around July 30, with local estimates reaching as high as 60,000. Fifty-seven bodies were recovered on the Spanish side, and most of those who entered later returned. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called the events a “violation of Spain’s territorial sovereignty.”

Ceuta’s leader, Juan Jesús Vivas, later described the influx as an “atrocity” and said people felt it was “if not orchestrated, at least encouraged or permitted by Morocco.” He noted 88 bodies in the local morgue, while Spanish officials reported that an estimated 69,500 people had returned to Morocco, with about 2,500 remaining.

Is Spain being punished for defying US-Israeli policy?

After such a tragedy, many have speculated on the principal cause behind the seemingly orchestrated “invasion.” They have reasoned that with Spain denouncing Israel as a “genocidal state” due to its ongoing atrocities in Gaza along with canceling arms deals and recognizing the State of Palestine in 2024, this refugee invasion is, perhaps, an organized punishment for these and other acts of defiance against Israeli-U.S. policy.

In a Saturday column published by Al Jazeera, author Belén Fernández observed how having signed the Abraham Accords, Morocco is in good relations with Israel, and at least two pro-Israel officials and commentators have recently publicly opined that this 99% Muslim nation should invade and take territory from the majority Roman Catholic Spain.

Spain targeted for ‘principled stance’ with Palestine, opposition to Iran war

Expounding on these dynamics, seasoned British politician and pundit George Galloway confidently asserted during his show on Sunday that the sudden surge of tens of thousands of Moroccan and African migrants into Ceuta was no spontaneous migration crisis but a calculated act of punishment orchestrated by the United States and Israel.

A Roman Catholic himself who is “in favor of” the Traditional Latin Mass, Galloway classified the events as a deliberate provocation. “65,000 migrants don’t all climb over a fence at the same time,” he said, crediting his wife with first smelling “the rat.”

He reasoned that the operation was a “punishment of Spain for its stand with the Palestinian people, its opposition to the war on Iran, its refusal to allow Trump to use Spanish air bases for bombing raids in Iran and its refusal to pay, to pony up, 5% of its entire economy for NATO’s war drive against Russia and China.”

Morocco, he proposed, served as the instrument because it is “a political, financial and military base of the settler state of Israel” whose regime is “a slave regime to Israel and the United States.”

The goal, Galloway argued, was to destabilize Madrid and install a more compliant government “like (Prime Minister Giorgia) Meloni in Italy, the fifth columnist for Donald Trump within the European Union.”

Sitting as an interview guest on Galloway’s show, the much sought-after American-born Iranian commentator Professor Mohammad Marandi agreed with his host, concluding the timing and method of the invasion revealed the true motive behind the event. “I knew that they would punish Spain, but I didn’t know that’s how they would do it,” he said. “This was punishment for Spain’s principled stance on Gaza and of course on the violence against Iran.”

He stressed that the identity of Spain’s prime minister was irrelevant. “Whoever stands up against the empire, whatever their race, whatever their religion, the empire will go after them.”
