BOSTON, March 5, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts is hearing a case that could make state the first to legalize homosexual marriage.
A lower court ruling said the elected Legislature, not the courts, should decide. Lawyers are now arguing whether homosexual marriage is analogous to interracial unions and whether opening the door would lead to legalized polygamy. Historically, courts in Hawaii and Alaska have approved homosexual marriage. But the state legislatures later passed constitutional amendments limiting marriage to couples of the opposite sex. The Massachusetts case will take months to decide. For newswire coverage: https://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030304/ap_on_re_us/gay_marriage_2
