LONDON, ON, Oct 22 (LSN) – Mayor Dianne Haskett of London is taking a three-week unpaid leave of absence from her job as mayor to protest anOntario Human Rights Commission ruling she discriminated against London’s gay and lesbian community. For refusing to proclaim gay pride week, the mayor was charged and found guilty of discrimination.
She called the decision wrong and an attack on freedom. Rights to freedomof religion and freedom of expression have come into question with the OHRC’s ruling. “I will not bow down to the ruling of the human-rights commission and I am willing to bear any consequences of that’’ she declared.
