TAIWAN, March 9, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – McDonald's has aired a controversial new commercial that depicts a young homosexual man coming out of the closet to his father by writing on one of the fast food chain's coffee cups.

The ad entitled “Acceptance,” created for McCafé by Leo Burnett, began airing in Taiwan on March 4.

It shows a young man write “I like boys” on his paper cup, then turn the message so that it faces his middle aged father.

The man's father slams his fist on the table and walks off, only to return with his own cup.

He then takes his son's cup and writes, “I accept that you like boys.”

The tagline, “Let there be warmth in conversations,” flashes on the screen as the two smile and sip their hot beverages.

The commercial has already generated backlash among the bustling island's Christian community.

“Because McDonald’s is frequented by many children, it is especially important to oppose the promotion of same-sex behavior,” said Chang Shou-yi of the Alliance of Taiwan Religious Groups for the Protection of Family. The Alliance said the advertisement serves only to “miseducate children on sexual behavior.”

Shou-yi said that the group will launch “boycotts [of] all enterprises that are polluting the next generation.”

McDonald's played with a similar theme in an ad that aired in France in 2010 entitled, “Come As You Are.”

Taiwan allows homosexual couples to register but has resisted attempts to redefine marriage. An estimate 200,000 people marched in the streets of Taipei in 2013 to protest attempts to legally recognize same-sex “marriage.”

Taiwan's birth rate is among the world's lowest. Its total fertility rate of 1.11 places it far below replacement level. The island's Ministry of Education announced plans last April to close 52 percent of the nation's colleges and universities by 2023 due to low enrollment.
