OTTAWA, April 15, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – On Parliament Hill during the March for Marriage April 9, one professor said, “It is not our welfare only, but the welfare of Canada, that is at stake in same-sex marriage.” Dr. Douglas Farrow warned that the passage of the same-sex marriage Bill, C-38, would replace the family as the foundational unit of society to make the state itself the primary social unit. He said a vote for this bill “is a vote for tyranny.”

Farrow pointed to the duplicity of the bill’s supporters who “claim that it will not alter marriage fundamentally at all, or the position of families vis-à-vis the state.”

Dr. Farrow said the change will mean that Canadians who adhere to traditional ideas of marriage and family will be threatened, “by the attempt to paint into a corner – the bigot’s corner – everyone who dares to challenge this right that is no right. Threatened by the use of the coercive power of courts, tribunals, and unions to silence dissent.”

Farrow contends that the change will move the country towards a tyrannical control of the means of human reproduction. “In order to make homosexual unions more nearly equivalent to heterosexual unions, it is necessary either to find a way for the former to produce babies by technological means, or to deprive the latter of any special relationship to their babies. It is necessary, in other words, for the state to take control over human reproduction.”

In comments after the March to LifeSiteNews.com, Farrow said that the change in the definition of marriage goes far beyond what homosexual lobbyists imagine about ‘equal rights.’ He said, “I do not suppose that there is any master-plan for a totalitarian state, let alone one that sets out to make use of a homosexual agenda for its own purposes. But I do think that the equality-rights agenda of homosexual activists, if successful, will so undermine the foundations of our social, political, and religious freedoms as to render us susceptible to the advance of totalitarianism.”

It is notable that the Ontario legislation, in making a change at the provincial level in anticipation of the passage of C-38 has already abolished a long list of legal terms such as ‘mother,’‘father,’‘husband,’ and ‘wife.’

In his speech on Saturday, Farrow warned voters to read the fine print of Bill C-38. “This bill not only presumes to take power over marriage – a power granted to it by the Supreme Court of Canada in an illicit, ultra vires act of its own. Bill C-38 also presumes to replace in Canadian law the words ‘natural parent’ and ‘natural parent-child relationship’ with the words ‘legal parent’ and ‘legal parent-child relationship’. In short, it turns our most fundamental human connections into mere legal constructs. It turns every man, woman and child into a chattel of the state.”
