TORONTO, Ontario, April 16, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – If it passes, the anti-bullying bill tabled by Dalton McGuinty’s Ontario government would codify a “propaganda term” that has been used as a battering ram against Christian parents and teachers for decades, says a pro-family leader.
Jack Fonseca of Campaign Life Catholics, a division of Campaign Life Coalition, is targeting Bill 13’s emphasis on “homophobia,” a term which he says was coined by homosexual activists to label Christian Biblical teaching as hate speech against homosexuals.
The term “homophobia” is often used by Christians to condemn unjust criticisms and attacks against the inherent dignity of people with same-sex attractions. But the charge of “homophobia,” created in the 1960s, has long been levied against even the perennial Christian belief that homosexual acts are contrary to God’s plan for human sexuality.
“Bill 13 will codify in law an anti-Christian slur,” says Fonseca, “because the government’s definition, taken from the Equity & Inclusive Education Strategy, is defined vaguely, without any exception for sincerely held religious beliefs, and can easily be interpreted to cover teachers and students who object to LGBTTIQ curriculum.”
The government defines homophobia as “a disparaging or hostile attitude or a negative bias, which may be overt or unspoken and which may exist at an individual and/or a systemic level, towards people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered.”
Fonseca says this definition “is so ambiguously and broadly defined that even passages of the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church could be interpreted to fall under this definition.”
Recent comments by one of McGuinty’s own cabinet ministers would seem to lend credence to Fonseca’s concerns.
In the March 29th debates on Bill 13, Liberal MPP Glen Murray lashed out at Ontario’s bishops over the Catechism’s teaching that homosexual acts are “intrinsically disordered.”
“I have to say to the bishops: ‘You’re not allowed to do that anymore,’” said Murray, an open homosexual who serves as McGuinty’s Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities.
“Make no mistake, homophobia, in the way that Dalton McGuinty and those who are against parental rights use it, is an anti-Christian slur,” Fonseca said in a speech on March 29th at the rally against Bill 13 at Queen’s Park.
“Faithful Christian teachers and parents are in trouble if this bill passes because they will be maligned, they will be labeled and they will be punished should they object to some of the curriculum that’s coming their way,” he said.
