TORONTO, May 15, 2001 (LSN.ca) – Media flocked to hear Canada’s leading abortion crusader, Henry Morgentaler, while ignoring a press conference held by former communist/pro-abortionist Merle Terlesky last Tuesday. Terlesky staged the event in the heart of Toronto’s “gay ghetto” on Church Street to herald the publication of his book, From Pro-Choice to Pro-Life: The True Story of a Former Communist, which describes his conversion from acting as a quasi-Canadian agent for the Soviet Communist party (and being paid by it) to a Christian pro-life advocate.

Despite all major media being notified of the event, no one turned up to hear Terlesky tell his story. Meanwhile, Morgentaler found a ready and eager audience at his Toronto abortuary when during a press conference he again railed against those provinces that are not completely funding abortions at private abortuaries. “This is an intolerable situation and puts the lives and health of women at risk by delaying or denying access,” he claimed as part of his usual rhetoric.

Morgentaler overlooked the fact that every reputable poll shows Canadians don’t want to see abortions publicly funded. That view was confirmed when Saskatchewan voters rejected public funding of abortion in a referendum several years ago. The media coverage of Morgentaler’s press conference failed to note those facts.
