STATEN ISLAND, NY, August 22, 2013 (Priests for Life) — Priest for Life's decision to sue the Obama administration in defiance of certain parts of the Affordable Care Act has drawn the enthusiastic support of Rep. Michele Bachmann and former Sen. Rick Santorum.

During a webcast on the battle for religious freedom hosted by Priests for Life this week, Rep. Bachmann said: “Who would have ever thought that in this enlightened day of 2013 that we would be forced to file a lawsuit simply to practice our sincerely held religious beliefs? But because of the bravery of an organization like Priests for Life, we, as believers, have a chance to have our voice heard in a court of law.”

Sen. Santorum, who now heads up the organization Patriot Voices, said the battle against a provision in the health care law that requires every employer, or their insurance carrier, to provide free contraception, sterilization services, and abortifacient drugs represents “maybe the most significant religious liberty case in the history of our country.”

Rep. Bachmann and Sen. Santorum took part in a webcast hosted by Priests for Life Tuesday night to draw attention to the serious threat that Obamacare poses to the Constitutional guarantee of religious freedom.

Also on the webcast was Robert Muise, co-founder and senior counsel of the American Freedom Law Center, which filed Priests for Life vs. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on Monday in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. He told listeners his firm will ask for a preliminary injunction against the mandate, which goes into effect Jan. 1, 2014and would begin to affect Priests for Life immediately.

Muise said he expects Priests for Life to prevail in the lawsuit.

“We have the momentum going our way,” he said. “We have the law on our side.”

Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, is also optimistic.

“This case can seem complicated, but when you come right down to it, it is so very basic,” he said. “Freedom of religion means not only can we live out our faith Sunday morning at church but also Monday morning at work, and every other day of the year.”
