OTTAWA, Dec 18, 2000 (LSN.ca) – The five-month ordeal of the Mielke family in Ottawa has ended with the return of their 9 younger children by the Ottawa Children’s Aid Society (CAS). As LifeSite reported in July, David and Ruth Mielke had nine of their eleven children apprehended by the CAS after the agency (wrongly) suspected physical abuse. While Mr. Mielke admitted that his former house was in serious need of fixing and clean up, he protested that the tactics of the CAS were outrageous.
The CAS refused to allow the family to negotiate needed changes while retaining the children. The horrendous method of apprehension of the children, the trouble in even allowing family visits and the insistence of supervised visits were among the hardships endured by the family.
