A young California mother has forgone potentially life-saving cancer treatment to save her unborn child, and says putting her daughter’s life first has left her no regrets.

Ashley Caughey had no difficulty with choosing her daughter Paisley over chemotherapy despite what it meant for her, according to ABC 8 News, and she is confident she made the right choice.

“I wouldn’t change anything at all,” Caughey said. “The most beautiful little girl, I look at her, and I’m just like, ‘Yep, I did the right thing.’”

Husband Jonathon echoes her sentiment.

“She just makes my heart melt every single time I look at her or pick her up or think about her,” he said. “She’s definitely a little angel, that’s for sure.”

Ashley Caughey received a terminal bone cancer diagnosis 10 weeks into her pregnancy with Paisley, and was also told by doctors to choose between cancer treatment and her unborn child. She remains resolute in her decision to put Paisley first.

“It wasn’t like I was giving up,” Ashely Caughey said. “I wasn’t not gonna do chemo at all. It was until my baby’s out safe, you know, I’m not doing chemo.”

After Paisley’s June 2014 birth the couple got terrible news. Her cancer had spread throughout her body.

Doctors say the 24-year-old mother now has only months to live, the Daily Mail reported.

They refused to give up, moving their wedding date earlier. Ashley Caughey’s six-year-old son Braiden walked his mother down the aisle.

In addition to life, she’s happy to give her children the gift of showing them how to live.

“I love that my kids are actually going to see me fighting instead of it being like, you know, ‘Your mom was this. Your mom was that. Your mom fought as hard as she could,” she said. “They’re actually going to see my love for them. Paisley is going to know how much I love her.”

The couple knows looking at their young daughter that they made the right choice, and despite the hard choice they made, they are also choosing to remain upbeat.

“I don’t like to sit on negativity ’cause this is gonna make things harder,” Jonathan Caughey said. “There’s always hope. There’s always a miracle.”

A fundraising page has been set up to support the Caughey family. It can be accessed here.
