MONTREAL, November 19, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Montreal’s new mayor has promised to crack down on erotic massage parlours that obtain therapeutic massage permits to cover up prostitution and human trafficking.

Denis Coderre made the bold remarks at a press conference Monday, mere days after his Nov. 14th swearing in.

He said the city will consider imposing large fines on the illegal facilities and Montreal police will launch an organized action to bring them down. They will also institute stricter inspections.

“From the massotherapists' association and the police, we've heard that (erotic parlours) often they get these permits and the occupation has nothing to do with massotherapy,” he said, according to the Canadian Press. “There can be prostitution in these places, juvenile prostitution, so I've said that it will be a priority.”

The news agency cited an RCMP spokeswoman who estimated the city has nearly 350 of these illegal facilities.

Coderre represented Bourassa as an MP for the federal Liberal Party from 1997 until June, when he resigned to run for Mayor of Montreal. He won the election on November 3rd.

As a federal politician, he was rated pro-abortion and pro-same-sex “marriage” by Campaign Life Coalition. He voted for same-sex “marriage” in 2005 and against every pro-life bill that was proposed during his tenure.
