MONTREAL, May 2 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Henry Morgentaler, the father of abortion in Canada, was attempting to drum up more business last week with a press conference in Quebec. Morgentaler and his side-kick Claude Paquin were complaining that the Quebec government had not kept promises about making “abortion services” more readily available in the province. Morgentaler’s self-interest shone through when he asked specifically for abortuary funding for his own abortion mill in the province.
Morgentaler’s request however, could not have come at a worse time. Just last month Quebec headlines were splashed with titles such as “Abortions in Quebec highest number in western world.” News articles explained that “Family planners in Quebec are disturbed over the high number of abortions being performed in the province.” The Quebec Institute of Statistics reported that abortions had increased dramatically. There were close to 29,000 abortions in Quebec in 1998, compared to 17,000 a decade earlier. For a province on its way to extinction with a negative natural population growth, news that there were 38 abortions for every 100 new births was troubling.
