SAULT STE. MARIE, ON, Dec 6 (LifeSiteNews.com) – As of today, the Algoma Health Unit will be giving out free doses of the abortifacient morning-after pill to women without a doctor’s prescription in it’s Sault office. During Health Canada’s approval process for PREVEN, the first legalized drug kit specifically geared to post-coital interception, health officials gave assurances that the drug would only be available by prescription.

The Sault Star reported Thursday that the drugs will be available at the health unit’s Wawa, Elliot Lake and Blind River offices in mid-January.

There has been no public discussion as to how the Health units will respond to lawsuits resulting from complications caused by Preven. To protect patient safety, traditional medical practice has required personal medical risk evaluation before dispensing such potent drugs.
