NEW JERSEY, Mar 19, 2001 (LSN.ca) – An opinion poll in New Jersey indicates that more than three-quarters of the state’s population supports parental notification laws. Seventy-six percent of New Jersey residents support parental notification laws before teenage girls can have an abortion, reported the Newark Star-Ledger last week; 63% would also support a constitutional amendment to this effect.

The state’s supreme court has already thrown out a parental notification law, but the New Jersey House recently passed a proposal calling for a constitutional amendment that would effectively reverse the court’s ruling. The poll was performed by Quinnipiac University, which questioned 1,129 registered voters.
