MOST OREGON DOCTORS UNWILLING TO ASSIST SUICIDE

SALEM, Mar 8 (LSN) – The recently released study of the Oregon assisted-suicide law reveals, from an informal state survey, that 67 percent of doctors who treat terminally ill patients would refuse to participate in an assisted suicide.

Dr. Katrina Hedberg, one of the report’s authors, responded to the lack of interest by the medical profession saying that “It is extremely controversial. It’s like being an abortion doctor.” As reported by the Associated Press today, she said that “doctors who take a stand and participate might be subjected to public harassment.”
