OTTAWA, March 22, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In comments very insulting to Catholics who take their faith seriously, Liberal MP and former government House Leader Don Boudria called himself a “practicing Catholic” while declaring his support for homosexual ‘marriage’. In his speech he included a message for those he knew would be shocked by his stance – “too bad”.
Speaking in the House of Commons Monday, Boudria said it was “a pleasure” for him to address the homosexual ‘marriage’ bill C-38. Boudria described his background prior to stating his position on the bill noting has been married for 34 years and is a grandfather. He then said, “I am a practising Roman Catholic living in a francophone rural community. I intend to vote in favour of this bill. That will perhaps surprise some people, but that is too bad.”
Catholics who value the faith suggest that the comments are a “disgrace to the Catholic Church”. Campaign Life Catholic spokesman Surresh Dominic told LifeSiteNews.com, “If you are not willing to practice what the Church teaches, at least have the decency not to claim to be a practicing Catholic.” Dominic said that such self-serving grandstanding hurts the Catholic faith by providing a false role model for young Catholics of what being a practicing Catholic is all about.
