(LifeSiteNews) — On this week’s episode of The Van Maren Show, Jonathon interviews Irish pro-life activist Vicky Wall about how the experience of having a stillborn daughter led her to become a defender of mothers and children in similarly heartbreaking situations.
Vicky is the founder of Every Life Counts, an online support network for parents with children diagnosed with “life-limiting” or terminal conditions. On this week’s episode you’ll hear Vicky share moving testimony about her daughter Líadán, who was diagnosed in the womb with Trisomy 18, a condition that very few afflicted babies manage to survive.
Despite Líadán’s poor odds of survival and Vicky’s doctor telling her the “only option” was to “pop over to England” — i.e., to get an abortion, which was banned in Ireland at the time — Vicky knew in her heart that Líadán was not “incompatible” with life.
“She’s kicking, waving, and she’s actually sucking her thumb, which they said that she couldn’t do, and [the doctor is] saying … that she’s just not compatible with life,” Vicky tells Jonathon. “So I think he knew by my face that I was horrified that he said that. Because immediately it felt like no longer was my little girl who we had already named Líadán … of any value to anybody, there would be no fight for her, or there would be no ambulance, or ‘We’ll try everything to save your baby, Mrs. Wall.’ There was nothing like that, and I just saw how quickly you just wrote off my baby.”
