CANTON, MA, March 29, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Associated Press reported today that Chuck Colbert, who AP says is a gay freelance writer for the National Catholic Reporter, interrupted a mass Sunday objecting to a video against same-sex marriage that was just shown. Colbert travelled to the parish because he heard that the video showing would take place there.  The video, Same-Sex Unions: Truth and Consequences”, was supplied by the Massachusetts Catholic Conference and was produced by the Coalition for Marriage, located in Boston. The brief video succinctly lays out dangers to families, children and society of legal recognition of both same-sex ‘marriage’ and civil unions and urges viewers to tell Massachusetts politicians to vote against gay marriage and civil unions.

After each fact, the video’s female narrator asks viewers the repeated question, “Is this what you want?”  Promotion material for the video states, “Learn about the consequences of same-sex unions: the death of marriage, impact on children, financial costs, how voting rights are being trampled, and more.”

Colbert, who writes for the dissident National Catholic Reporter newspaper, which supports same-sex ‘marriage’, was unsurprisingly upset with the video and, reported AP, called it “a scurrilous, scandalous piece of misinformation”.  Archdiocese spokesman Rev. Christopher Coyne told AP that is was appropriate to show the video and said Colbert was the only one who objected.

On Monday’s Catholic World News Off the Record blog, regular contributor, Diogenes alerts readers to the likely collusion between AP and Colbert on the surprisingly quick publication of the AP story complete with various interviews.

Diogenes writes “are we supposed to pretend that Colbert—who plants himself in a parish he doesn’t belong to, who claims he couldn’t ‘sit there and take it’ when the video he went out of his way to see is shown, who then stages a bit of calculated agit-prop to further the cause of gay rights—is a neutral and objective observer of the situation?”  See the AP story at https://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040328/ap_on_re_us/gay_marriage_disturbance_1   See the Coalition for Marriage website and the link to view the video online at https://www.preservemarriage.org/  Catholic World News Off the Record https://www.cwnews.com/offtherecord/offtherecord.cfm
