CONCORD, May 23, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The New Hampshire state Senate, in a 12 to 11 vote, has approved a 48-hour parental notification program for girls under 18 who say they want an abortion. Such minors would have to obtain the support of their parents (who are also the unborn child’s grandparents) during the 48-hour cooling off period.

It is believed that, if the bill reaches the governor’s desk, Republican Craig Benson, who is pro-life, would sign it into law. But first it must pass the more heavily pro-abortion House, which in the past 20 years has repeatedly rejected any parental notice or consent bills.  Sen. Robert Clegg, a Republican who supports the bill, opposed amendments that would have made it easier for girls to get permission from a judge instead of having to tell their parents. “No one wants to stand in front of their parents and say I did something wrong and I’m sorry,” Clegg said. “So if you give them an avenue to get away from telling their parents, they will take it.”  For newswire coverage:  https://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030522/ap_on_el_st_lo/parental_notification_2
