OTTAWA, May 10, 2001 (LSN.ca) – A new Environics poll says 55% of Canadians strongly (29%) or somewhat (26%) support marriage between same-sex couples while 41% of Canadians strongly (30%) or somewhat (11%) oppose it. The survey conducted between April 5 and 24 says that the number of Canadians approving of homosexuality has doubled in the last five years with 21% of Canadians strongly approving of homosexuality and 23% somewhat approving. In contrast, 37% of Canadians say they strongly (24%) or somewhat (13%) disapproved of homosexuality.

The National Post reports that 73% of respondents aged 18-29 supported homosexual marriage but among those over 60 only $35% support it.
