FRONT ROYAL, Virginia, January 17, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A compelling documentary on the threats to life, faith and family in Central America and Mexico, foisted on the people of these countries by foreign governments and agenda-driven NGOs, is set to premiere the same week as the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C.

Produced by Human Life International, “Central America and Mexico: Fighting for Life, Faith and Family” exposes the well-funded assault on the people and culture of the region. This attack targets the natural bonds of family and community, the faith that has formed the social structures that have endured through great hardship, and the most innocent life in the womb.

“On the 41st anniversary of Roe v. Wade and the legalized murder in the U.S. of our pre-born brothers and sisters in the womb, Human Life International’s new documentary is a reminder to all Americans that the destructive policies of our government – supported with our tax dollars – have devastating effects well beyond our borders,” said HLI President Father Shenan Boquet.

The third episode in HLI’s True Story documentary series, it was filmed on location in Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica.

It tells the story of how the people of Central America and Mexico are standing up for their families, and for their faith, despite propaganda in the media, immoral conditions placed on “development aid,” the influence of very aggressive pressure groups, and the pro-abortion movement's culture war against the Catholic Church and the families of Central America and Mexico.

Yet, there is resistance to this assault of the “Culture of Death.” The film shows that, in charity and in truth, the people in the pews are pushing back.

Many Catholic priests and bishops, together with community activists and some brave elected officials, have established support networks for mothers and babies and media campaigns to spread the Gospel and expose anti-life propaganda.  They are working to keep politicians accountable to the people of faith whom they serve. The documentary also shows the Catholics of this region turn to the Mary, the one who they believe brings her children to Christ, and who gives hope when all hope seems lost.

“The countries of this region have some of the most pro-life and pro-family laws in the world, making them prime targets for promoters of the culture of death,” said Fr. Boquet.

“There is a recurring pattern in our True Story film series: the people in the countries we’ve visited recognize the U.S. as one of the main forces behind this cultural assault. As we fight for own culture here, we cannot forget the millions outside of our borders who are suffering because of U.S. policies and programs.”

The documentary debuts in the U.S. on the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) and is currently scheduled to air January 25, 2014 at 8 p.m. EST.

A Spanish language version of the film will air on EWTN’s Spanish U.S. and International channels beginning January 27.

Viewers should check their local EWTN listings as times are subject to change. A live Internet stream of the EWTN channel is also linked on the film’s homepage.

HLI was founded in 1981 and is the world’s largest international pro-life and pro-family organization, with affiliates and associates in over 80 countries on six continents.
