VANCOUVER, Nov 29 (LSN.ca) – On Saturday more than 300 representatives from five provincial political parties in British Columbia came together to amalgamate their parties into one large party able to contest the ruling NDP government in the province. The BC Family Coalition Party and four others disbanded to form the “Unity Party of B.C”. A Constitution and Founding Principles were drawn up and agreed upon by the group which commit them to a sound political program which values life and family.

A press release by the BC FCP notes that “Never before have we been able to unify the non-NDP, non-Liberal political parties under one banner. There is a good chance The Unity Party may form the Official Opposition in the BC legislature and relegate the NDP to ‘has-been’ status, but this can’t happen without the help of all sincere supporters.” Heather Stilwell, the Leader of the Family Coalition Party, will seek the leadership of the new party at the Founding Convention.
