WASHINGTON, October 28, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – As the US national election approaches, the Catholic Church continues to be clear about the fact that the right to life is central to every human rights issue.

Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director, Priests for Life, today drew attention to several recent statements of Vatican officials regarding the fact that without the right to life no other right is secure. Priests for Life conducted interviews with Vatican bishops and cardinals in preparation for the upcoming election.

Cardinal Renato Martino, President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace made the following statement:  “The Holy Father speaks of the protection of life as the fundamental realization and respect for human rights. Without that realization, without that respect for the right to life, no other discussion of human rights can continue…”  Fr. Pavone pointed out that it is especially important that those in the Church who work in ministries of social justice and peace pay attention to what Cardinal Martino has said. Priests for Life continues to call upon all Christians to elect pro-life candidates.  More of the newest statements from Vatican officials as well as statements of other bishops and the Holy Father can be viewed at www.priestsforlife.org/magisterium/bishops/abone.htm
