VATICAN, Dec 12, 2000 (LSN.ca) – Zenit News reports that on Monday the Pontifical Academy for Life published a document entitled, “Respect of the Dignity of the Dying,” concerning euthanasia. Published in response to the Dutch government’s legalization of the practice, the document reiterates Church teaching on the subject.
Countering common arguments in favour of euthanasia, the document notes that “more than ever, pain is ‘curable’ with adequate analgesic means and palliative care,” together with “adequate human and spiritual assistance.”
The full document is available on the Vatican’s website only in Italian at: https://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/pontifical_academies/acdlife/documents/rc_pa_acdlife_doc_20001209_eutanasia_it.html
