October 17, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – President Donald Trump has pursued and delivered numerous concrete results for the pro-life movement, according to a new video by Priests for Life.
The video, released Wednesday, highlights ten of the most important things the president has done during his first two years. “Many pro-life people worked hard to elect President Donald Trump,” the narrator argues. “That hard work has paid off for the pro-life movement and the unborn.”
The countdown begins with Trump’s calls for Congress to send him legislation such as the 20-week abortion ban; staffing his administration with committed pro-lifers such as Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo, Charmaine Yoest, Shannon Royce, and Roger Severino; and eliminating the Obama-era mandate to provide abortifacient contraception.
It goes on to praise the president for cutting off foreign aid to abortion groups; protecting states’ right not to fund the abortion industry; and appointing numerous conservative judges to federal courts, shifting the balance of at least two circuits so far.
“The first and greatest thing that President Trump did for the pro-life movement was to keep Hillary Clinton out of the White House,” the video concludes. Clinton considers abortion a non-negotiable “human right,” and campaigned for effectively unlimited abortion at taxpayers’ expense.
But the group warned that such progress could be jeopardized in next month’s congressional elections.
“Just as the 2016 election defied political history, this midterm election can do the same, for the same reason: The people who want to make America great again, to make the children in the womb protected again,” Priests for Life national director Fr. Frank Pavone said.
“A Democrat takeover of Congress will mean that, instead of the Congress de-funding Planned Parenthood or protecting babies from painful late-term abortions, they will be embroiled in impeachment proceedings that will not in fact result in removing either the president or Justice Kavanaugh from their positions, and will only be a waste of the time and energy of the American people and those whom they elect,” he added.
Trump’s consistent pro-life performance has pleasantly surprised many pro-lifers, who were originally worried about the 2016 political newcomer’s self-admitted “very pro-choice” past. Trump said in 2011 he was inspired to change his mind by the birth of a friend’s child.
“We all have a duty to defend the most basic and fundamental human right — the right to life,” the president declared in June. “As President I am dedicated to protecting the lives of every American including the unborn.”
Many pro-lifers have been frustrated by the Republican majority’s failure to defund Planned Parenthood; Trump says expanding the GOP majority is the key to finally doing it.
“The level of hatred, the level of anger is unbelievable. Part of it is because of some of the things I've done for you and for me and for my family, but I've done them,” Trump warned evangelical leaders in August. He said that if Democrats retake Congress, “they will overturn everything that we've done and they'll do it quickly and violently, and violently.”
That anger has risen to new levels in the wake of Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court earlier this month, with several prominent Democrats encouraging disgruntled liberals to personally confront Republicans.
Planned Parenthood’s executive vice president Dawn Laguens and former CEO Cecile Richards called on followers to “unleash your rage and “stay angry,” while the abortion giant has threatened that it’s “coming for” senators who voted to confirm Kavanaugh.
“In November, Americans must vote, and must vote pro-life,” Fr. Pavone concluded. “The lives of millions of unborn babies depend on it.”
