LOS ANGELES, California, November 1, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – A new video from the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) presents a former “procurement technician” discussing the intimate relationship between baby parts harvester StemExpress, LLC, and Planned Parenthood.
The whistleblower, Holly O’Donnell, tells David Daleiden that Planned Parenthood revealed private patient medical information to third party contractors like her. As an employee of StemExpress, O’Donnell worked inside Planned Parenthood centers in northern California, drawing blood and dissecting organs from aborted babies. These were then sold to such clients as researchers at Harvard and other institutions.
“At the beginning of the day, we would let them (Planned Parenthood) know what we were looking for,” O’Donnell says in the video. “There was a lot of coordination.”
“We’d open up the task page (on our computers) … it shows you what the researchers want, how many specimens they want for that day or that week. Roughly saying, it was like a grocery list of what to get for that day.”
O’Donnell and other StemExpress contractors would tell Planned Parenthood what they needed to harvest, e.g. a liver from a 15-week-old fetus. In response, clinic management would share the private medical information of pregnant women coming to Planned Parenthood for abortions:
“We’d go to the head nurse, let the nurses know, hey, this is what I’m looking for today. They’d give you a sheet of the appointments, which women were coming in, and it would tell you how many patients, what time they were coming in, their name, and if they knew how far along they were.”
O’Donnell would highlight the names of patients whose babies matched the criteria requested by the researchers.
The former StemExpress employee also told Daleiden that Planned Parenthood gave her access to patient medical charts and even made available to StemExpress patient schedules across the entire Planned Parenthood affiliate. CMP now has in its archives a StemExpress email to O’Donnell reminding procurement technicians to download these schedules every Friday.
On its website, the CMP reminds readers that the House Energy & Commerce Committee’s Select Investigative Panel referred StemExpress, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte and Planned Parenthood Northern California to the U.S. Department of Health and Human services for five years of “systematic violations” of the HIPAA privacy rule in these businesses’ baby parts harvest. “These violations occurred when the abortion clinics disclosed patients’ individually identifiable health information to StemExpress to facilitate the TPB’s efforts to procure human fetal tissue for resale.”
Daleiden added that “Planned Parenthood Mar Monte and Planned Parenthood Northern California together see approximately 300,000 patients each year.” He observed that this put the “private health information of hundreds of thousands of pregnant women at risk.”
StemExpress, LLC, was founded in 2010, and now calls itself the world’s largest provider of “maternal blood” and “fetal tissue,” making $2.2 million in 2013. In the introductory footage to the CMP’s latest video, Cate Dyer, StemExpress’s CEO and founder, tells an undercover reporter that Planned Parenthood “has volume.”
“It’s a volume institution,” she says.
The Center for Medical Progress is a team of journalists “dedicated to monitoring and reporting on medical ethics and advances.”
The members state on their website that they “are concerned about contemporary bioethical issues that impact human dignity, and we oppose any interventions, procedures, and experiments that exploit the unequal legal status of any class of human beings. We envision a world in which medical practice and biotechnology ally with and serve the goods of human nature and do not destroy, disfigure, or work against them.”
California-based CMP has an enormous impact on how abortion — and fetal harvesting — is discussed in the United States. In retaliation, Planned Parenthood, the National Abortion Federation and others with pro-abortion interests have pursued Daleiden through the courts.
