Cardinal Egan Calls Proposed Law An “Unprecedented Attack”
NEW YORK, Aug 22, 2001 (LSN.ca) – A proposed law which would bar anyone from getting within 10 feet of a woman heading into an abortion mill and punish violators with up to six months in jail is headed for a vote “in the coming weeks” according to New York City Council Speaker Peter Vallone. Yesterday, Cardinal Edward Egan of New York assailed the bill as an “unprecedented attack on the rights of free speech and free exercise of religion.”
At a hearing on the bill yesterday, 100 pro-lifers turned up to oppose the legislation, far outnumbering supporters of the bill.
