NEW YORK (LifeSiteNews) – The attacker of pro-life Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin has been released from jail just hours after he attempted to stab the New York Representative.

On July 22, 43 year-old David Jakubonis was released from jail after being charged with second-degree attempted assault for his attack on Zeldin during a campaign stop in Perinton, New York, according to a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office press release

Jakubonis made his attack on Zeldin as the NY Governor candidate was giving a campaign speech in Perinton, July 21.

“His words as he tried to stab me a few hours ago were, ‘You’re done,’ but several attendees, including @EspositoforNY, quickly jumped into action & tackled the guy,” Zeldin tweeted.

“Law enforcement was on the scene within minutes,” he added, while predicting, “The attacker will likely be instantly released under NY’s laws.”

According to Fox News Digital, Jakubonis’ attack was stopped by AMVETS national Director Joe Chenelly.

“His right hand came up, I assume out of his pocket, and he had a blade on his hand,” Chenelly told Fox News Digital. “His fingers were like two finger holes in the blade and lunged at the congressman. And Congressman Zeldin blocked the first lunge. And then as he tried to lunge again, I grabbed him from behind and tackled him down to the ground and held him on the ground.”

This is not the first attack on a pro-life politician in recent months. On June 8, police arrested an armed man outside Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home. The man allegedly told police that he wanted to kill the conservative Catholic justice.

While the would-be-assailant was arrested, pro-abortion protestors gathered outside Kavanaugh’s home just hours after the attempt on the justice’s life chanting anti-Catholic and anti-life slogans.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refused to publicly denounce illegal protests at the homes of pro-life Supreme Court justices. Her predecessor, Jen Psaki, had claimed that the White House encouraged “peaceful protests…outside of judges’ homes,” saying “that’s the president’s position.”

Acts of vandalism and arson began escalating in May after news of the leaked draft Supreme Court report that could overturn Roe v. Wade. Pro-abortion radical group Jane’s Revenge has claimed responsibility for multiple attacks against pro-life organizations and churches across America.

There have been over 20 attacks on pregnancy centers across the U.S., and a Catholic advocacy group has launched a map showing 140 attacks on Catholic churches as anti-Catholic violence increases across America.

Following the Supreme Court’s historic decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, pro-life pregnancy centers and Catholic churches have faced increased violence, vandalism, and arson.

Recently, pro-abortion activists defaced the doors of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Madison, Wisconsin as abortions ceased in the state after the reversal of Roe.

The violence appears to have no clear end in sight, with the Department of Homeland Security predicting terrorist attacks could continue “for weeks.”

Last week, Democrats unanimously voted to block a resolution condemning the ongoing violence against churches and pregnancy centers across the country.
