NEW YORK, November 12, 2001 (LSN.ca) – New York City Mayor-Elect Michael Bloomberg, who won the mayoral election two weeks ago, said on NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday that he would be a pro-abortion and pro-homosexual activist. The New York City billionaire, chairman and namesake of his financial news and information company, was asked by host Tim Russert “Will you be an active spokesman trying to shape Republican Party policy, particularly on issues like abortion rights and gay rights?”

Bloomberg, who spent about $50m of his own money – a mayoral election record – in his successful election bid responded: “Absolutely.” In response to another question Bloomberg explained, “I am pro-choice. I am pro-gay rights. And I will try to convince others the error of their ways if they disagree.” (NBC, Meet the Press, 11/11)
