The Cynicism and Intellectual Corruption of the Left By Peter Wehner
You would have to be living on another planet not to be aware of the effort by some on the left and in the media to blame conservatives for creating a “climate of hate” that encouraged a suspect, Jared Loughner, to attempt the political assassination of Representative Gabrielle Giffords. This crusade is being led by the New York Times.

What is on display is a cast of mind in which facts and reality are secondary to storylines and narratives. The aim is not truth; it is to advance The Cause. It is also about cynical exploitation. It is all quite sick, really.

Not a few liberals are attempting to use a human tragedy to advance an ideological agenda. They are using dead and broken bodies as political pawns. The blood was still flowing from the gunshot wounds of slain and wounded people in Tucson as liberals began an extraordinary and instantaneous smear campaign. It will end up making our political discourse even more angry and toxic. The cynicism and intellectual corruption on the left is deeper than I imagined.

Arizona Shooting Coverage Is a Media Campaign to Criminalize Conservatism
– Brent Bozell
Media Research Center President Brent Bozell issued the following statement after a thorough, two-day review of how the media have covered the tragic shooting in Arizona.
Implicating a conservative tie to this heinous act of violence or to Jared Lee Loughner, who is no conservative, is nothing short of a naked campaign to criminalize conservative thought.

Federal Judge: Liberal Sheriff, Media Exploiting Attack
by Jeffrey Lord – American Spectator
The judge, a personal friend of the murdered federal judge John Roll, declined to be cited by name but was brimming with anger at what he termed the “cynicism and downright evil” of the liberal media’s “cynical attempt” to blame conservative talk radio and television for the murder of the only public official not to survive the shootings—the conservative Catholic Roll, an appointee of President George H.W. Bush.

Said the furious judge: “And though terribly tragic though all of this is, how ironic that the one constitutional officer to die was a conservative, Republican-appointed federal judge. Will anyone point out the hypocrisy of liberal media on that one? Or is it a fact that is just too inconvenient?”

In the relentless drive to dominate, leftists have a brutal, well-on-the-record history of two things. First, deliberately and willfully committing political violence in the name of a leftist cause. Second, blaming that violence on others.

The Left, Not the Right, Owns Political Violence
– American Thinker
Perhaps the most egregious example came from Paul Krugman of the New York Times, who wrote, “We don’t have proof yet that this was political, but the odds are that it was.”
Well, we do have some proof now, and it’s clear that the shooter was in no way connected to the Tea Party, the Republican Party, or any other movement on the political right.  Law enforcement officials have revealed that suspect Jared Loughner was rejected by the Army and kicked out of college.  He appeared to have mental health issues, and he was a reader of The Communist Manifesto.

…maybe we ought to remind them of the left’s protracted association with political violence. it wasn’t until the 1960s (when Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, and Ho Chi Minh became idols of the American left) that the left really ramped up the violence. Race riots took place in Watts in 1965 and nationwide in 1968; leftists rioted at the Democratic Party Convention in Chicago in 1968.  John Kennedy was murdered by a communist, and Robert Kennedy was shot by a Palestinian – hardly men of the right.

The progressive “climate of hate:” An illustrated primer, 2000-2010
By Michelle Malkin
The Tucson massacre ghouls who are now trying to criminalize conservatism have forced our hand. They need to be reminded. You need to be reminded. Confront them. Don’t be cowed into silence. And don’t let the media whitewash the sins of the hypocritical Left in their naked attempt to suppress the law-abiding, constitutionally-protected, peaceful, vigorous political speech of the Right.

Grieving Giffords – American Thinker
You cannot extract rational conclusions from an irrational event.  It’s clear that Jared Lee Loughner is simply insane. There is nothing to be learned from this about guns, public security, or politics in general.  Lunatics will go off, in the same way that tires occasionally go flat and lightning strikes where it’s not supposed to. Civilized people do not utilize the misfortunes of others to push a political agenda.

Will The Left Answer For Any Of This?
Joe Hargrave – American Catholic
I want to remind everyone of a few examples of left-wing related or inspired political terrorism, violence and insanity that have taken place within recent memory.
