Dear Readers,
Regardless of concerns we might have about some of Canadian Prime Minister Harper's policies and methods, we have to agree that the ongoing, flood of coverage of his reception of Communion at a Catholic funeral is suspect. It has gone far over the top and appears to be a concerted effort to exploit Catholic respect for the Eucharist to politically damage the PM. Harper clearly did not realize that he did anything wrong. The much greater fault can be laid with the clergy who should have done much more to ensure that only Catholics were offered the sacrament.
On the other hand, the saga has also had a positive benefit. Now vastly more clergy and lay people are far more aware of Catholic beliefs about the Eucharist, the requirements for receiving it and the often neglected duties of clergy regarding distribution of the sacrament. On the cultural and religious level, this is good.
Every now and then we are prompted to remind some of our readers about our guidelines for Composing Effective Communications in Response to LifeSiteNews Reports. See https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2009/apr/09042903.html.
It you really do want to bring about positive change, please read and follow those guidelines. If you just want to get things off your chest and lash out at and demean persons mentioned in our reports, we strongly encourage you to never do so. Such communications are rarely, if ever, helpful. They cause far more harm to the causes of life and family than such letter and email writers realize. Please do make the effort to send letters and emails, but… do it smart.
