There were repeated calls for “civility” from the critics by some notably very “uncivil” defenders of the institutions.
Rep. Steve Israel's statement that Climate Change Is a National Security Issue’ seems rather ominous. Is this how the Democrats are going to go about forcing US citizens and others to accept massively costly and intrusive carbon control legislation? Opponents would be considered to be endangering national security?

I believe in wide open speech and the rough and tumble of public debate, particularly about important political or social controversies and public persons–me included. That doesn’t mean, of course, that I believe in libel.
Andrew Weaver, a leading Canadian climate scientist, is suing the National Post for libel based on its articles that the scientist believes defamed him, which from what I read in the following article, would seem to have little chance of success here.
This seems to be a claim that merely disagreeing with this scientist or, indeed, with the all holy “consensus,” is the same thing as defaming said scientist and/or those who are part of creating that consensus, because some reader might conclude that the scientists weren’t professional in reaching their conclusions–even if that charge was never actually leveled. If that is what the lawsuit actually alleges in part or in whole, it is an astonishing claim and a spear aimed at the heart of heterodox comment and free public debate.

To see Alinskyites, radical intellectuals, and Woodstock yuppies lecturing fellow Americans on the virtue of civility is tiresome but unsurprising. No one is more authoritarian than a successful left-wing revolutionary: he rises to power by extolling dissent, then stays in power by suppressing it. We're seeing a replay of the inane and self-serving chatter about civility that the left cranked up after the Republicans took Congress in 1994.
A Who's Who of enlightened society gathered for a few years thereafter to mull over the “explosion of incivility” and the alarming rise in “rudeness.” But what was really on their minds? Just thwarted or stalled liberal legislation and goals. Then as now, “civility” was nothing more than a euphemism for the docile acceptance of liberalism's advance and “incivility” was equated with effective resistance to it.

Left-Wing Torstar, Cash at Hand, leads CanWest Bidding for National Post, Ottawa Citizen
Among the CanWest assets, Torstar is believed to covet the Financial Post to bolster its flagship paper, the Star. The publisher of the Toronto Star and 97 other Ontario papers is backed by the deep pockets of Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd., which owns 19 per cent of Torstar.
Torstar would come aboard as the operator of the CanWest papers, but would limit its exposure by contributing a relatively small amount of its own money, while relying on the financial muscle of Fairfax, the insurance company headed by Prem Watsa.
The chain of papers, known as CanWest LP, consists of 11 large broadsheets such as the National Post, the Montreal Gazette and the Ottawa Citizen, and 35 community papers.
