COLLEGEVILLE, Pennsylvania, September 10, 2002 (LSN.ca) – A victim of Norplant contraceptive side-effects is suing the manufacturer, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, and the ObGyn Yazoo City Medical Clinic in Yazoo City, Mississippi which prescribed the product and misinformed her about its side effects. As a direct result of Norplant since 1993, the suit alleges, the woman has suffered and will continue to suffer, headaches, dramatic weight gain, facial, chest and stomach hair growth and constant bleeding. She also suffers blurred vision, heart damage, seizures which render her disabled, and other damage to her mind and body. “Throughout the period that defendant, Wyeth, was concealing information about the risks of Norplant, from consumers, Wyeth was reaping enormous profits from the sale of the drug.” LifeSite reported on August 29 that Wyeth had quietly withdrawn Norplant from the market, denying the product caused side-effects.
