APEX, North Carolina (LifeSiteNews) – A “Drag Queen Story Hour” for children, planned as part of “LGBT Pride” celebrations, has been canceled by the mayor of a North Carolina city following public backlash against the event.
Mayor Jacques K. Gilbert of Apex, North Carolina, announced Saturday through a Facebook post that a drag performer-led reading session, originally planned as part of the “Apex Pride Festival,” would no longer be included on the itinerary owing to “feedback I have received from citizens,” the mayor wrote.

The mayor also noted that the story hour had not been “originally presented when the event was proposed.”
After sharing the citizens’ concerns with “representatives from the organization hosting the event,” Gilbert said that “the Apex Festival Commission has taken the feedback into careful consideration and has decided to remove the Drag Queen Story Hour from the event.”
Dave Rubin (left) hosts one of the most popular conservative chat-shows on YouTube, but we now know his views are as extreme as many on the left.
Not only are Rubin and his homosexual partner using surrogate mothers to bear two babies, thus deliberately depriving the children of their true mothers' care once born, but he also admitted those babies would have been aborted if found to have severe disabilities.
SIGN the petition telling Dave Rubin that true conservatives protect life and uphold the right of children to be raised by their mothers.
Mr. Rubin recently said he also supports abortion up until 12 weeks, compounding the regrettable pro-eugenics stance he has taken towards unborn babies with severe disabilities.
There are few things more tragic in our world today than the disposable attitude of many people towards innocent human life, but that is exactly what Rubin thinks is acceptable.
This must be called out - it's simply abhorrent to treat the disabled, the unwanted, and the vulnerable with such callous disregard.
Tell Dave Rubin that his pro-eugenics views have no place in a humane society.
Can you imagine finding out your parents would have aborted you if you had a severe disability?
Well, that's unfortunately what will happen to the children Rubin raises if they someday read his latest book, "Don't Burn This Country".
There he shares that he and his family's decision would have been to "terminate the pregnancy" if a severe disability was found in one of the babies now being borne by their surrogate mothers.
Rubin must understand how cruel this entire situation is, not only for the mothers and their children who will be taken away, but also for disabled people to know they are essentially thought of as "lives unworthy of life."
Real conservatives must speak up now and tell Rubin that his pro-abortion views are abhorrent.
Mr. Rubin's public split with the left is to be welcomed, but "conservative" leaders like him will do much more harm than good if they continue using their platform to undermine the family and the right of children to be born.
If we let these cornerstones of society be attacked from within, what hope have we of building a culture we can be proud to hand on?
Make a stand today for unborn children and their mothers - tell Dave Rubin that he's wrong.
True conservatives cannot afford to take the easy shortcut of ignoring Rubin's cruel position, lest we continue to be shunted further left, becoming radical liberals in everything but name.
So, please SIGN and SHARE this petition today,

No details of the feedback were offered; however, commenting on the mayor’s post, Apex Town Council member Audra Killingsworth said that the council received “many emails … complaining about the drag story hour event,” citing some “violent threats” as the reason behind pulling the event.
Killingsworth said she was “disappointed and frustrated” to learn of the cancellation.
Despite the story hour being canceled, games and shows are still slated to take place at a “Kids Zone” in the Apex Town Hall campus at Saturday’s “Pride” fest.
In response to Drag Queen Story Hour being pulled, Apex Pride co-founder DeAnna Conard told CBS 17 that though seemingly a small part of the planned events, the story hour is “very important,” since it “really resonates and involves the children that come.”
“Drag story hour is extremely popular; our children love it, and their friends love it,” Conard claimed.
In comments on the mayor’s Facebook announcement, Conard noted that while the story hour may have been canceled, drag performances will still be carried out on the main stage at the venue and that performers have agreed to circumvent the ruling by reading the materials to children directly from the stage.
“While the decision was made against our will to pull the drag story program from the kids area, this wonderful activity is so important to our Drag guests that they will be taking breaks from their performances to read to children from the stage,” Conard explained.
Concerned parents also took to the comments, with one asking for the event organizers to clarify what materials will be read to children, questioning whether they would be “inappropriate and maybe pornographic.”
Drag Queen Story Hour is an international organization which establishes drag “queen” reading sessions for children around the world, often making use of libraries and school classrooms to read picture books, sing songs, and teach drag “as a form of dress up and play” to children as young as three, according to the group’s website.
Drag Queen Story Hour “captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models,” the organization states, adding that one of its goals is to teach children to “learn to see beyond the pink and blue gender binary and celebrate difference in themselves and others.”
The events have faced fierce criticism for putting convicted pedophiles and prostitutes in close proximity to children. The British chapter of Drag Queen Story Hour faced backlash in 2020 for apparently endorsing pedophilia.
The group tweeted a photo of a gleeful man wearing a rainbow suit and wielding a rainbow umbrella with the pro-pedophilia message “Love has no age!” The tweet was deleted shortly after people started to point out the phrase, which is frequently used by pedophiles.
LifeSiteNews reached out to the local Drag Queen Story Hour chapter for comment but did not immediately receive a reply.
