NYC phone app shows teens where to get an abortion, contraception, gay services
NEW YORK, May 30, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – If you're a teenager in New York City searching for an abortion, contraception, or someone to tell you about homosexual sex, there's an app for that.
Teens in the abortion capital of America now have a city-sponsored smart phone sex app to help them find abortion facilities, Plan B, birth control, LBTQ services, STD testing, and more.
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is promoting the new app – available in Apple and Google online stores – on its NYC Teen website.
Upon launching the app, the teenager enters a secret and confidential world that her parents will never know about – and don’t have the right to know about.
When opening it for the first time, a message tells minors: “Teens in NYC…have the right to sexual health services without permission from parents, girlfriends/boyfriends, or anyone else.”
The app then helps minors find the most convenient place to procure sex supplies and services.
“Where To Go” uses a teen's phone’s GPS function to determine her location and provide her with the nearest facility that provides the services – including abortion and methods of birth control – she seeks.
The “What To Get” function explains each method of birth control including how it is used, whether she needs to be in the care of a physician to obtain it, and whether it protects her from sexually transmitted diseases.
A series of three YouTube videos, included under “What To Expect,” feature a soundtrack of rapped vocals and other similarities: All use the tagline “always use a condom and another form of birth control”; all tell teens they are in control of their sex lives; all the teens starring in the videos are minorities; and all present the “family planning” facilities as the teens' ally when her parents don’t approve of their behavior.
Anaya, a character in one of the videos, begins by saying, “The right thing to do is to wait” to have sex. But she ends up having sex with her boyfriend, anyway.
“I felt so weird…not bad…just weird,” she says after intercourse.
She uses the NYC Teen app when she and her boyfriend have a pregnancy scare.
The “friendly” family planning facility gives her the morning after pill and sets her up with free birth control methods.

Another video assures teens that all teen services are completely confidential and “free” at the facilities featured on the app.
“I’m scared to go to a clinic. What if my parents find out?” asks Jenn, a character in another video. She is relieved when she finds out, “All we have to do is bring our school IDs."
A family planning facility employee tells Jenn about New York state’s Family Planning Benefit Program (FPBP), which will pay for her “sexual health” services in the future. She need only sign up for the taxpayer-funded benefit.
The last video features “Samantha,” a bisexual girl who says she doesn’t have anyone to talk to about her sexual attraction to her female friend and her fear of being pregnant after habitual “unprotected” sex with her boyfriend.
“From the second I walked in [to the abortion facility], everyone was so nice,” says Samantha.
She tells the family planning counselor about her same-sex attraction.
“She said that feelings like that are totally normal,” she beams.
New York City's abortion rate already stands at 40 percent, nearly double the 23 percent national average. That percentage is higher among minority populations.
And now, while the state of New York is cracking down on crisis pregnancy centers, it is simultaneously going to great efforts to promote abortion, contraception and same-sex sexual activity among its teenage population.
