NEW YORK, February 14, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – A Christian organization has responded to Gov. Cuomo’s extreme abortion legislation by organizing a real-time 4D ultrasound of a preborn baby to be broadcast on Times Square jumbotrons in New York in May.

Focus on the Family announced that it will feature the broadcast of a live ultrasound on May 4 as part of an event called “Alive from New York.”

“During the event, a doctor will perform a live 4D ultrasound of a preborn baby,” the organization said in a press release. The event will also include a live musical performance and speakers.

“Hopefully, thousands will gather to celebrate the preciousness of life, and remind New York politicians that the fight for life will continue,” the organization said.

Focus on the Family President Jim Daly said the real-time ultrasound will be of a third-trimester baby.

Daly explained why Times Square was selected to display the ultrasound. “Times Square is where it all happens,” he told CBN News, and added, “We're not shy about going there and saying to Governor Cuomo and others, 'Let's look. This isn't adversarial. Let's just take a position. Let's see what an ultrasound looks like.'”

Doubting that pro-abortion politicians have ever seen an ultrasound image, Daly said that on the huge video screens in New York City, Focus on the Family will be able to say, “‘Here's a picture of a third-trimester pregnancy. Look at the definition. These children are viable outside the womb. These children are already fully human…’” He said that is the politicians who “will have to defend their position” on supporting abortion.

The event follows New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s approval of the state’s new Reproductive Health Act, which permits abortion throughout pregnancy and even to the moment of birth. Countering the arguments of pro-abortion advocates regarding the viability of unborn babies, Daly said, “And with the 4-D technology that we have, it looks like a picture of a 1-year-old.” Speaking on Tuesday, Daly noted, “There is no way a person is going to be able to say, 'That is not a child.' It is a child and we want everybody to see it.”

Referring to New York’s action to explicitly permit late-term abortion in its statutes, and a statement by Virginia Gov. Ralph Northram that affirmed infanticide, Daly said, “I think what's happened in New York and Virginia has prompted a response.” Daly added, “These politicians that have overreached, in our opinion, when it comes to reshaping the abortion debate.”

“If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen,” Northam said in a January radio interview. “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that's what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.” He was interviewed just after legislation, promoted by fellow Democrats, was blocked in Virginia's House of Delegates that would have allowed babies to be aborted even while the mother is in delivery.

Expressing outrage on CBN, Daly said infanticide is being promoted in Virginia. “Once a baby is born, if it's not viable outside the womb or if it's severely handicapped, they're going to let the baby sit on a table and then the mother and physician decide whether or not to let that baby live – that's not the country we live in. And that's not the law of the land, actually,” Daly said.

Daly warned that America appears to be verging on the violence of ancient Rome. Calling on Christians to take action, Daly said, “I would just say to Christians in particular – this is not new. There's nothing new under the sun. This is ancient Rome once again, and Christians were known for saving babies who were thrown out in the garbage heaps to die. That was their (Rome's) form of infanticide.” Daly said that the practice was common at the time of Jesus, and added, “So this isn't anything new, but it was the Christians that stood up and said 'No. Everyone human is made in God's image and we can't destroy innocent human beings.'”

Focus on the Family is encouraging pro-life advocates to attend the May 4 event.

“If you're a pro-life supporter and would like to make a stand for life on one of the world's biggest stages, consider joining Focus on the Family on May 4th in Times Square,” the organization said in a press release.
