WASHINGTON, D.C., October 11, 2012, (LifeSiteNews) – President Barack Obama told a magazine aimed at teenage girls that Planned Parenthood provides “mammograms” and is an indispensable health care provider, a falsehood so blatant that it caused a former Planned Parenthood clinic director Abby Johnson to say, “At this point in time, we can’t trust the president. He is living in Planned Parenthood’s pocket.”

In an interview with Glamour magazine on July 24, President Barack Obama tried to sell the fashion magazine’s teen and preteen readers on the indispensability of Planned Parenthood to women’s health care in the United States.

“We want to make sure that women continue to have full access to health care, including their reproductive rights,” Obama said. “When Mr. Romney says, ‘We’re going to get rid of Planned Parenthood,’ and his allies in Congress attempted to federally defund Planned Parenthood, we said no. Precisely because in many of these states Planned Parenthood is your only possible access to not only abortion but pap smears, cervical cancer screenings, mammograms. It is a place where women who may not otherwise have the means can take care of their own bodies.”

Abby Johnson wasn’t buying it.  The former clinic worker turned pro-life activist took to Facebook Wednesday afternoon to issue a passionate rebuttal before her 24,000 subscribers, classifying the president’s remarks as “a bunch of lies” and refuting them point-by-point.

“Planned Parenthood is NEVER the ONLY possible access to pap smears and cervical cancer screenings. NEVER…not in any state,” she wrote on her Facebook page. “There are thousands of free health care providers that are available to women in EVERY STATE.”

She added, “No Planned Parenthood in this nation provides mammograms. NONE.”

Obama should have known better, given the controversy over the issue earlier this year, when the Susan G. Komen Foundation briefly defunded the abortion provider.

“PPFA is licensed as a ‘level one breast service center.’ That means they are only able to provide manual breast exams…like the ones you perform in the shower,” Johnson wrote. “NO BIOPSIES. NO BREAST ULTRASOUNDS. AND CERTAINLY NO MAMMOGRAMS.”

She pointed out that, while there are fewer than 700 Planned Parenthood clinics in the U.S., there are over 7000 Federally Qualified Health Centers that provide comprehensive health care to women, men and children, including gynecological care. The idea of Planned Parenthood as the only, or the best, women’s health center “is a myth that PP has tried to pass along for many years. Unfortunately, many people have bought into it.”

Johnson told LifeSiteNews.com she did not know if the president’s mistaken assertions were deliberate or not. “I think that he is ignorant, and I think that he is so well paid by [Planned Parenthood] that he will say anything to make people believe that they are the place to go,” she said.

Either way, it calls the president’s reputation into question, she said. “Here we are, still hearing these myths,” she told LifeSiteNews, “not from some nobody, but from our president. If you’re going to push this agenda, at least know what you’re talking about.”

She expressed concern that young women are getting their information about critical political issues from pulp teen magazines. To those young women, she offered these words: “Glamour is known for promoting an abortion agenda. Pick up a better magazine.”

“Don’t subscribe to the filth and misinformation,” she said. “You need to know the facts.”

Asked where she would advise young women to get the facts about Planned Parenthood, Johnson said, “At this point in time, we can’t trust the president.  He is living in Planned Parenthood’s pocket, Look at stories like mine and other former clinic workers.  Obama has never been inside a Planned Parenthood clinic, and if his daughters needed care, I guarantee he wouldn’t send them to a Planned Parenthood clinic.”
