NORTH CAROLINA, January 21, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Sam Casey, the pro-life lawyer who went into a coma after being hit by a car while bicycling before Christmas, was able to speak to his family in a “very slow drawl” on the day of the 46th annual March for Life.

Sam’s wife, Jill, wrote about her husband’s remarkable progress on the Caring Bridge page the family is using to post updates about Sam’s health.

She said that upon entering her husband’s room the day of the March for Life, he spoke very slowly with an occupational therapist (OT). Jill recalled the conversation:

OT: “Sam, can you say Hi?”

Sam looking at me trying to focus in a very slow drawl: “Ye..ah”

OT: “Sam, how are you feeling?”

Sam: “I’m see…ing how   how th..is th..ing feeeels.”

OT: “Sam, what are you thinking?”

Sam: “I'..m n..ot  on ad-ven..ture.”

I broke out in tears of Joy!  WE HEARD IT!!!

“Only JESUS can raise/heal a damaged brain!” she wrote. “I proclaim today January 18, 2019 March for Life and Answered Prayer in JESUS’ Name!”

Sam also tried to kick a soccer-sized beach ball with his left foot. The left side of his body is what was most injured in the accident.

Jill noted that the 2019 March for Life is the first Sam missed in “many, many years,” and he had also been scheduled to keynote the dinner accompanying Charlotte, North Carolina’s March for Life the previous weekend.

“This past week I received an email from our church and the local Charlotte pro-life community,” she wrote, telling her there would be a nine-day novena to St. Maximilian Kolbe “to grant healing to Sam and strength for our entire family.” She also revealed she received word that during a pre-March for Life Mass at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Washington, D.C., all the bishops there prayed for Sam.

At the Law of Life Summit on January 17, legal scholars and pro-life activists prayed for Sam’s healing, too. He has been an integral part of the Summit in the past.

On January 16, “Sam was unexpectedly transferred in an underground tunnel connecting the hospital to a brain trauma rehab building,” Jill explained. “Was I to get excited he was moving for his 4th time? Health workers said 6 days earlier Sam was far from rehab and his brain would have to awaken before rehab.”

Jill wrote that she is “overwhelmed in HOLY JOY” at her husband’s progress.
