May 6, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – A woman who became pregnant despite years of IUD use has expressed joy at having her son, and the dramatic effect his presence has had on the family’s life.

The anonymous woman's story was featured in a compilation of stories of women who had unplanned pregnancies and chose life for their babies on Yahoo Beauty.

“The last thing I wanted at that point in my life was a fourth kid,” the mom explained.

“We had three beautiful, healthy, potty-trained kids who attended all-day school and were basically self-sufficient,” she said. “My husband and I had made it through the sleep-deprived survival mode, we still liked each other, and life was looking up.”

The mom explained how she and her husband had gotten some much-needed time alone together over summer break, and how, having removing her IUD shortly before, they conceived another child.

“I had had my IUD removed about a week prior,” the now mother of four recounted, “but since I’d had it for five years, the doctor told me it would be almost impossible to get pregnant but, if we did slip, to use the morning-after pill immediately.”

The IUD has myriad documented complications and dangers, and there are countless instances of women becoming pregnant while still using the IUD, but perhaps most concerning, LARCs have the potential to work as abortifacients.

The morning after pill, often called “emergency contraception,” can also function as an abortifacient, keeping a newly-conceived embryo from implanting in the mother’s womb, causing an abortion.

“Of course we slipped, and I followed the doctor’s orders,” the mom in the article continued.

Nonetheless, she became pregnant.

“About three weeks after the kids came home, I felt exhausted, moody, and just not right,” the mother said. “I took a pregnancy test just to make sure, and when it was positive, I took another.”

Her spouse’s reaction out of the gate was not positive.

“When I told my husband, his response was, ‘Call me in 18 years,’” she related. “We were in shock. I cried for a month. The last thing I wanted at that point in my life was a fourth kid.”

Yet, despite their concerns, they eventually took stock in their family and went forward.

Their choice for life then opened their hearts and their world, the mother learning they couldn’t have been more wrong that one more child “wouldn’t make much of a difference.”

“Except it did,” the mother revealed. “He has not only brought me closer to my husband, but he’s taught our other children patience, sacrifice, and tenderness,” she stated. “He is the sweetest, happiest baby, and I honestly don’t know what we would do without him.”

The Yahoo Beauty article contains several other moving stories of couples learning to treasure the gift of life even when a pregnancy was the last thing they were expecting.
