Ontario Catholic teachers association to march in gay WorldPride parade in Toronto
TORONTO, March 11, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association took another step in its promotion of the homosexual agenda Monday as it announced it would march in Toronto’s WorldPride parade on June 29.
The association, which represents the province’s 45,000 teachers and plays a large role in their professional and spiritual formation, passed a motion at its AGM this weekend to organize a delegation for the homosexual activist event.
“Registering for, and marching in, the World Pride Parade is a visible symbol of solidarity with one of the most marginalized groups in the Catholic community,” reads a “rationale” attached to the motion, which required a simple majority to pass.
Though it’s often billed as “family friendly,” Toronto Pride is known for its displays of full frontal nudity, simulated sex acts, sadomasochism, and sexual bondage.
Jack Fonseca, a spokesman for Campaign Life Catholics, said the decision is an “all out rebellion against the Catholic Church,” and argued that "OECTA is turning itself into a homosexual-activist group."
The motion, proposed by OECTA’s Toronto Secondary Unit, states: “That the Association show its support for Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) and its lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, two-spirited and queer (LGBTTQ) members by registering for, and marching in, the World Pride Parade on June 29, 2014.”
According to the motion’s “rationale,” “Many LGBTTQ Catholic students, former students, and teachers have felt excluded, isolated, and invisible within the Catholic school system. The Association has been a leader in promoting the inclusion and recognition of the rights of LGBTTQ people in this context.”
LifeSiteNews contacted OECTA but did not hear back by press time.
Fonseca said, “This is a frontal assault on Catholic moral teaching about marriage and human sexuality. OECTA pretends to represent and love the Catholic Church, but it seems to be doing all it can to destroy her from within.”

He warned the move would cause damage to the faith of both teachers and students. “It is not possible to participate with the gay pride parade without sending the message that you reject Catholic doctrine vis-à-vis gay sexual activity. OECTA knows this and that’s precisely the point,” he explained.
The Catholic activist urged Ontario’s bishops to deal with the OECTA problem head on.
“They need to strip OECTA of the name Catholic ASAP. They also need to find a way to either give OECTA the boot, or otherwise restrict their activity very narrowly to contract negotiation,” he said. “All aspects of religious formation of teachers needs to come back under the direct control of Ontario’s Catholic bishops.”
“The cost of doing nothing will be the potential loss of many souls who will be lead to reject Christian truth because of OECTA’s influence,” he added.
The parade’s lewdness has been in the press in recent weeks after Toronto District School Board trustee Sam Sotiropoulos said the board should re-evaluate its float in the annual event if the city will not enforce the laws against public nudity.
Amidst the buzz, two columnists have defended the nudity at Pride.
Those who have a problem with nakedness at the parade can “stay home” with their children and watch “more palatable aspects of our world” on TV such as “priests raping children,” he said.
“I prefer to leave that all behind for a few hours on Pride and head downtown to celebrate gay rights and gay sex — and to protest those who hate us gays and the ways we seek pleasure.”
And according to Lauren Strapagiel, news editor at Canada.com, “in-your-face sexuality is the point of the damn thing."
"Ultimately, there are worse things than seeing a penis flopping down Yonge Street," she wrote.
